Happy Monday!

Thank you to all those who made our last two events so wonderful: First, we bundled up and had a blast at outdoor movie night. A huge thank you to organizers Holly Shaw, Amy Ro and Ade Ighodaro as well as our concessions team of Michele Elliot and Jacquie Mital, with extra help by Alex Schulz and Kim Murphy.

Thank you also to Jen Mellish and Andrew Gottfried for hosting our Kindergarten Parent Social at their home.

Such great community events to get us ready for the fall!

This week is Week of Respect at Watchung School. Please join us in participating each day!

Monday (10/7): Students are encouraged to wear blue for “National Stomp Out Bullying Day”

Tuesday (10/8): “Hats off to people who show Respect” Students should wear their favorite hat to school

Wednesday  (10/9): No School. District Closed

Thursday (10/10): Wear “Crazy Hair” to show we are all unique and different, and we should respect our differences.

Friday  (10/11): “School Spirit Day” Wear your Watchung gear to show that we are all a team.

WALK-N-ROLL is this Friday, October 11th. Details are on this flier, please sign up to help via Sign Up Genius, or reach out to organizer Heather Canale at with any questions.

Our first PTA General Membership Meeting will be Wednesday, October 16th at 7pm. Babysitting and pizza will be provided. We will be featuring a guest speaker at each meeting and this month we're excited to have our friends from Watchung Booksellers come talk to us about our upcoming Book Fair!

The Watchung Birthday Book program has started up for the year! Every kid deserves a book of their very own to read, and so every student at Watchung receives a new book of their choice for their birthday, during their birthday month, from the PTA. This week, volunteers staffed the book cart during lunch and handed out books to those with August and September birthdays. We'll be scheduling October's day soon (and don't worry--summer birthdays get a book too!)!

We gladly accept donations of new books for reading levels from K-5, so think of us when you're at Watchung Booksellers, checking out books at the Book Fair (coming up!), or placing that order through Scholastic's classroom flyers, and tack on a book or two for the program.

Mr. Krenn is working with the Montclair Police Department and the Parking Enforcement Bureau to streamline the Drop-Off and Dismissal procedures at Watchung. In the meantime, please make sure you are following ALL of the parking laws. This especially includes the Commuter lot, North Fullerton, and in front of the school. They will begin ticketing people who are parked illegally. If you are not sure, please read the signs.

Here are some upcoming important dates to add to your calendar:
October 9: NO SCHOOL
October 11: Walk-n-Roll
October 14: NO SCHOOL
October 16: PTA General Membership Meeting, 7pm
November 16-20: BOOK FAIR (including a family shopping day on Saturday, November 16th and a Parents Shopping Night with author visit on Tuesday, November 19th!)
As always, please feel free to email us at with any thoughts or questions.
All our best,
