MONDAY, 11/16, 7 PM:
DRAG QUEEN STORY HOUR
CHB is THRILLED to welcome Miss Harmonica Sunbeam for a fabulous virtual story time event. Drag Queen Story Hour is not so different than any other story hour, it’s just taken up a notch. A range of books, both classics and newer titles, will be read as Miss Harmonica celebrates all the ways that we are unique.
Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) is just what it sounds like—drag queens reading stories to children in libraries, schools, and bookstores. DQSH captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models. In spaces like this, kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where all people can present as they wish.
TUESDAY 11/17, 7 PM:
Montclair Community Police Officer Paul Rusniak
Officer Paul, who many students and CHB families will recognize from our playground and school events, will be reading a few stories, including Kelly DePucchio’s story, Gaston, and will introduce students to his own family’s four-legged friends.
WEDNESDAY: 11/18, 7 PM:
CHB Parent and author Monk Inyang will read from his newly released Middle-Grade Urban Fantasy novel, The Oracle’s Blessing, book Two of the Nightmare Detective Trilogy. This tale, inspired by the author’s own childhood in Newark, NJ, includes a mysterious quest, a conspiracy of teachers, and the dark dream world, Pangea.
Suggested for 4th and 5th Graders
THURSDAY: 11/19, 7 PM
CHB School Nurse, Christine Langdon
CHB’s very own Nurse Christine will read a few new books which discuss, in gentle ways, our current, socially distanced world. Don’t miss the parody, Good Morning Zoom! (a take-off on the classic, Good Night, Moon!) as well as the poem, The Great Realization, which transforms a tale of the pandemic into a message of hope and resilience.
FRIDAY: 11/20 at 8 PM
Fiction Story Time for Parents
Please note: This reading begins at 8 PM
Grab a glass of wine, get cozy and experience a fiction story time for adults.
Montclair author Marcy Dermansky, and former CHB parent, will read from her 2019 novel, Very Nice, which NPR described as “a tart lemonade of a summer read, full of outspoken characters, libidinous activity—much of it unwise— around a swimming pool, and a beautiful standard poodle.”
It’s time to mask up, layer up and, stock up on short sleeves, long sleeves, pajama pants, hoodies. Check out our revamped site montclairpta.org/chb/chb-spirit-wear/ and see what’s new.
All orders will be delivered within 2-3 business days of receipt of payment.
Thank you to all the new PTA members. If you are not a member yet, we encourage you to become a member to support CHB PTA. Membership is $10 per person.
This booklet outlines all of our committees, programs, and activities.
