Happy Monday!
Warm thoughts to everyone in our amazing CHB Community. We are all sitting behind our individual Zoom screens, we are all juggling in various ways, missing seeing each other in person like in the “good old days”, but we are all in this together, we are staying apart to keep each other safe.
This week is the last full school week of this year before we go into holiday mode next week.
Thank you to everyone who helped make the MEA Wrap & Roll “Thru” a success. Wonderful gifts were dropped off to ensure that 17 Bullock families will have a wonderful holiday. Thank you to Ms. Gutierrez and Ms. Heard for coordinating this holiday giving with parent Anna Rothberg. And a big thank you to all the staff and families who donated presents.
Thank you to Frances A. Aboushi, VP at Glenfield Middle School and Community Speaker, for last week’s powerful, passionate, and inspiring talk on “How to Talk to Our Kids about Race”. The following Q&A was engaging and uplifting. Thank you to Jo Budzilowicz, Kimberly Latortue, and the entire Bullock Anti-Racist Equity Team (B.A.R.E.T.) for organizing this talk and conversation. Let this be the beginning of many more initiatives around this important topic.
We hope you will all have a great week!
Warm Regards from,
CHB PTA
Welcome Back Ms. Gutierrez!
Congratulations to our school counselor on the birth of her baby girl and thank you for coming back to take care of our kids and families as well! Please reach out to her with any concerns re: the social-emotional well-being of your child and if you have questions re: mental health and community resources in general.
Here’s a word from Ms. Gutierrez:
My role in supporting families will consist of assisting and providing you with ways to help your child succeed, consultations regarding your child’s needs, referrals for community services, and information about and creating 504 plans as needed. My role as school counselor in the CHB community is to provide short term support that ultimately allows students to have greater success in a classroom/virtual environment. A local provider list is available upon request should you need ongoing and long term support for your child.
I have created a Google Classroom which I would like to invite our students to join. Many joined last year, and I hope to get 100% of our students to join this year. They can participate in student-specific activities in the FOR KIDS section of the Classwork folder.
They will find worksheets like mindful activities, breathing strategies, reflection/journaling prompts, and fun activities and videos.
Please enter the invite code ZNDULBK to join! In the PARENT RESOURCES section, I will be posting resources for you to help support your child during virtual learning, newsletters, updates, and activities to help pass the time.
Message from the PTA After-School Enrichment (ASE) Committee:
We are nearing the end of a successful all-remote ASE session. This fall, we held seven ASE classes in which CHB students created artwork, sewed, played the guitar, coded, conducted chemistry experiments, played chess, and learned magic tricks.
We plan to offer another all-remote ASE session this winter. Classes will run once/week (on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday) from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM for 10 weeks, beginning January 25, and there will be offerings for all grade levels. As always, financial aid (one class per student) will be available to anyone who needs it. If you – or anyone that you know – would be interested in teaching an ASE class this winter, please reach out to CHBenrichment@gmail.com
