Human Needs Food Pantry Food Drive
Leading up to Harvest Day, Edgemont families are encouraged to drop-off or send in non-
perishable items for the Human Needs Food Pantry, which provides food, clothing, and other
services to people in need who live in Montclair and neighboring communities in Essex
County. Last year, our school donated over 18 shopping bags overflowing with groceries!
Harvest Day
An all-day, all-school celebration of food, the harvest and good stewardship of the earth!
Students engage in hands-on learning activities like scarecrow building, making butter from
cream, visiting a petting farm, apple tasting, creating a recycled or nature-themed craft and
more! It’s a full day of fun, experiential learning for the kids. Volunteers staff and run the
stations and help with set-up and clean-up.
Halloween Mash
This is one of the kids’ favorite events! Kids (and adults) are invited to an evening of
costumed fun! Volunteers DJ the party in the multipurpose room, collect the entrance fee,
hand out (non-food) treats, run a quiet corner, and hand out refreshments.
Cosmic House Party
This is the night when the adults get to have all the fun! Come dance, socialize, and enjoy
drinks, appetizers, and a night out. The evening also features a silent auction and an auction
of collaborative artwork by each class, raising money for PTA programming.
Edgemont Annual Arts & Crafts Fair
This fair hosts local vendors (including crafty Edgemont families!) and food vendors, and
invites the Montclair community to our school to do their holiday shopping. A great community
event and fundraiser for Edgemont! Includes a craft activity station to occupy kids.
Volunteers find vendors, advertise the fair, help with set-up and clean-up, and run the craft
activity station.
Edgemont Skates
New Year’s Day on ice! Families are invited to meet up with friends at Clary Anderson Arena
for skating, hot cocoa, and reconnecting after the long winter break.
Edgemont Movie Night
Another dark and cold winter night? Feeling house-bound and stir crazy? Come watch an
all-ages movie in the multi-purpose room! Volunteers help with set-up and making popcorn.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service
In partnership with Bradford Elementary School, students and families are invited to take the
“day on” by participating in activities that support local families and organizations. Chair
needed.
Scholastic Book Fair
Students and parents can shop for books – and help support new books for the classrooms!
This is a big event, and requires lots volunteers. There are many different opportunities – set
up the book fair, assist students in selecting and buying their books, or even run a cash
register! Volunteer time slots are 90 minutes. Contact Sara Holliday at
bookfair@edgemontpta.org
Edgemont Book Club, Book Swap, & Book Club Pajama Night
Edgemont Reads! All families receive a free copy of a selected book for a school-wide book
club experience. All month, families can participate in a book swap. Edgemont Reads
culminates in an evening event – book club conversations are facilitated by parent/caregiver
volunteers, and students can participate in activities that bring the book to life! Volunteers
help out during PJ night by running activities and hosting book club conversations.
Green Eggs & Ham Family Event
Our biggest community-building event of the year! Edgemont families enjoy a scrumptious
breakfast and spend the morning with some great entertainment. Previous years’ activities
have included arts and crafts, a magic show, and karaoke! Kids and adults try their luck at
winning themed raffle baskets, teacher treats and the principal’s special school experiences!
There are a huge range of volunteer opportunities – from helping to plan the event, to helping
with food prep, to working an hour-long shift during the event.
Y Night at Geyer YMCA
The YMCA hosts Edgemont families for fun fitness activities with Mr. Freeman, swimming,
and healthy food! There is also arts and crafts and open play time at the gym. Volunteers are
needed to help at sign in, volunteer to donate food, health out with the various activities, and
supervise. Contact: Brooke Kessler at Brooke_Kessler@yahoo.com
Teacher Appreciation Fridge Stock & Luncheon
Every May we show our appreciation for our teachers and school staff by providing delicious
foods to sustain them during the busy month of May. Volunteers donate food and help stock
the fridge or set up the luncheon.
Fun Day
The BEST DAY OF THE SCHOOL YEAR! (Seriously. Ask your children.) Every student
looks forward to this special day when the outdoor space of the school is turned into a fun
fair. This year, we’re looking for new volunteers to run the event. Responsibilities include
deciding on games or activities, booking equipment, recruiting volunteers, and organizing
classroom visits at all stations. Running this event is just like slotting lots of puzzle pieces
together — and you will get a great feeling of accomplishment when you see the smiles on
Walk, Bike and Bus to School Day
On the first Wednesday of every month Edgemont students get to participate in Walk Bike
and Bus day at school. This gives the students the opportunity to get a little
activity before starting their school day! We are always looking for volunteers to help
chaperone around the perimeter of the park. In October and May we have a larger event
where we provide light refreshments for the walkers so we need extra volunteers at that time.
Volunteer commitment is short and sweet – 7:45-8:25 am that day. Contact: Brooke Kessler
at Brooke_Kessler@yahoo.com
PTA Meetings
PTA meetings are an opportunity to connect with other parents/caregivers and talk about
what’s happening at Edgemont. Each meeting will feature a guest speaker or workshop.
Meetings are open to all parents/caregivers and school staff. Meetings are held in the
evening; free childcare is provided.
Enrichment
The Edgemont PTA Enrichment Program offers a variety of after-school classes we hope
spark curiosity, support healthy bodies, and give our students an opportunity to enjoy new
experiences and build new friendships. We offer Fall, Winter and Spring sessions. Class
suggestions are always welcome!
Hospitality Committee
The Hospitality Committee feeds the volunteers and students at events and activities, and
keeps everyone smiling! It is a GREAT job if you like to bake or enjoy catering!
