Dear Hillside Parents/Caregivers:
We hope the Hillside’s Virtual Back to School Night answered many of your questions. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, thank you for that. For everyone celebrating over the long weekend..Shanah Tovah!

Each candidate will be scored based on the criteria below:
-
Serves as an exceptionally skilled and dedicated educator in a public or charter school;
-
Inspires students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn;
-
Demonstrates leadership and innovation in and outside the classroom;
-
Has the respect and admiration of students, parents, administrators and colleagues; and
-

Virtual Meet Norms/Tips for Grown-up Support:
We thank all of the grown ups for your support of our students while they are participating in their Zoom Live Instruction each day. In an effort to ensure consistency and effectiveness of our live instruction time, we have listed below several points to support this:
-
When possible have a grown-up with the child to log-on to session each morning and ensure the child is able to see, be seen, and hear instruction. Grown-up should also ensure the name on the screen is the student’s name.
-
When possible have a grown-up within range of child, but not on screen with child, to support when needed with any technological or other support
-
Please ensure that background noises are kept to a minimum so that a child can hear instruction and also be heard when they participate.
-
Virtual meets are designed for students. Children learn through making mistakes. To prevent disruptions to the learning environment, grown-ups should not actively participate with the teacher as they deliver instruction.
-
Expectation is that the child is present for the duration of class, both with video and sound on. Teachers will communicate with grown-ups if a child leaves a class session without notification. This communication will not come during class time.
-
Please email teachers to communicate about concerns. Do not use time during the live class instruction to express concerns directly to the child’s teacher while other children are present in Zoom.
-
Do not video record, audio record, photograph or transmit in any other way any part of the virtual meet, including not posting on any social media platform

3rd Grade Aesthetic Rotation:
The 3rd grade rotation schedule for related arts is attached. This schedule is based on your child’s homeroom teacher as listed on Genesis. Please note the following:
-
Your child will have 2 related arts courses a day- one during period 3 and one during period 7.
-
Be sure to take note of the dates at the top of the chart. Homerooms will rotate to different courses each week.
-
You will see that for some related arts courses, the homeroom will be split into two groups. This is indicated by Group 1 and Group 2 on the chart. Your child’s homeroom teacher will alert you as to which group your child is a part of.
-
Each related arts teacher has a Google Classroom dedicated to your child’s homeroom and group.
-
The schedule was created to reflect the weeks of the first cycle. The rotation will repeat after Week 7. Cycle 1 ends on December 11th.
-
To help keep this organized, I recommend printing the chart, finding your child’s homeroom teacher, highlighting the row, and hanging it on a refrigerator or bulletin board.

A Message from Ms. Scott:
Hello Hillside families! Congratulations on making it through your second full week of remote learning! I hope Back to School Night was informative and the remote learning experience is getting better and better each day. I know some moments may continue to feel overwhelming but just know you are doing a GREAT job!
For the past two weeks, I’ve been providing suggestions to the teachers for their social-emotional learning (SEL) mini-lessons. I will continue to do so throughout the year. For the first 4 weeks, all the suggested lessons will revolve around the 5 core competencies of social-emotional learning, which are self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision making, social awareness, and relationship skills. The lessons are designed to help foster the development of the foundational skills necessary for social-emotional wellness.
The following link will direct you to an anonymous survey- Hillside Social-Emotional Survey. This anonymous survey has four questions and will take you less than three minutes. The survey is designed to gather general information about ACEs (adverse childhood experiences) within our school, in an effort to help Hillside school better meet the social and emotional needs of our students. This is especially important during this phase of remote learning. More specifically, this survey will help us to identify the needs of the homerooms, which in turn will help me to program and provide social-emotional support.
I had to update my Google Classroom so you or your children may have gotten “kicked out” of class. I had to remove all the students and parents and create a new class code for 2020-21. Unfortunately, the people in the classroom were very mixed up- there were former students and parents in there. I know Google classroom will send notifications when information is added so I didn’t want them to keep getting emails about a classroom that is no longer relevant to them. Trust me I know firsthand how annoying that can be LOL! In any event here is the invite link Ms. Scott’s Google Classroom . The new class code is y5znwsx. ~ Ms. Scott
