A Note from the Principal’s Desk – 4.30.2021
Dear Hillside Community,
Every problem might not have a solution right now, but don’t forget that every solution was once a problem.
Our Pandemic Response Team is composed of administration, parents, teachers, office staff, and other school personnel. This team was confronted with the problem of student isolation and how could we as a school facilitate more social opportunities. The team is excited to announce that Hillside kicked off our Peer Socialization Groups last week! Currently we are offering 15+ different kinds of groups that range from Minecraft, Among Us, Nerf Battle, Pet Lovers to Cooking and Hiking. Both in person and virtual groups are being offered and overseen by older peers in the Middle and High School. These groups allow our students to meet up with other students and talk about stuff they love. They are fostering friendships and excitement! CHEERS to this team for working hard to implement solutions!!!!!
Here are a few lessons to be learned and experiences to be had for our students this month, Asian American – Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Hillside Peer Socialization Clubs – Last call to sign up!
The Hillside Peer Socialization Clubs have started this week. We only have a few open spots. If you’re planning to sign up, please do so ASAP.
We developed these clubs in response to parent demand for increased opportunities for peer socializations, including virtual and outdoor, in-person options. The club topics were developed based on surveys of our students performed by their homeroom teachers. There are space limitations on the clubs, we only have a few spots left.

Hillside Bookfair 5/8 – 5/15
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: As you may know, we postponed our traditional bookfair this fall in hopes that we could do an in-person this spring. The time has come and we are thrilled to be able to hold our first ever OUTDOOR bookfair from Saturday, May, 8th until Saturday, May 15th. We will offer before and after school shopping hours as well as weekend hours this year but we are limited by volunteers so please sign up to help and if we fill up these time slots, we can expand! We will also offer a remote option but are still figuring out the details. Volunteers are needed to roll out the cases and set up for the day, manage the register, and work with our virtual shoppers to get their orders. Thank you so much for any help you can give. This is traditionally one of our biggest fundraisers and we are hopeful that even with limited hours, families will still shop and kids will get books to love! If you have any questions or you can volunteer at a time when there are already 3 ppl signed up or time not listed, please e-mail Diane Tehranian at dnoerpel@hotmail.com.
