LIBERATION LITERACY / AN IMANI READ IN FOR BRIGHT FUTURES

IMANI and a coalition of local partners are coming together to sponsor a joyful community read-in under the banner of Liberation Literacy on Saturday, May 31 from 11:00am – 2:00pm. As we head toward Juneteenth, we’re celebrating Black history as American history and holding up the stories of diverse groups and ideals that are under attack from policies and widespread book bans.

What to Expect:

  • Read with a Buddy! – Middle and high school students will pair up with young readers to share stories that open minds and spark conversation. Community service hours offered – sign up to volunteer!
  • Freedom Through Reading – Explore age-appropriate books on Black history, freedom, and banned books (on a variety of topics) that remind us why all stories matter.
  • Snacks and Community Vibes – Enjoy light refreshments and connect with community organizations and neighbors.
