Vision
The Board of Education, administrators, principals, teachers, staff and families work together with the goal of a more inclusive, collaborative and productive Montclair Public School System for all students, faculty, staff, parents and caregivers.
Mission
The mission of the Montclair Council of the PTAs (PTAC) is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children in the Montclair Public Schools. It is a 501(c)3 and is a part of Region 1 of the New Jersey Congress of Parents and Teachers, Inc. (NJPTA), a branch of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers Association (National PTA).
Objectives
- Empower local PTAs with advice, guidance, best practices, tools, training and networking opportunities
- Facilitate district-wide information-sharing
- Support / Inform BOE on Policy issues
- Support / Inform Superintendent on administrative matters
- Developing relationships with stakeholders, individual and groups, that are influential in our students’ school life
- Explain the processes within a school or at the district level whereby an individual or a group can make a complaint and/or make a contribution
Key Initiatives
- Raised awareness of the mission and function of the PTAC throughout the district
- Developed PTAC committees, open to all PTA members, addressing community relations, schools’ budget, leadership training, wellness, equity, special ed
- Increased PTA membership in under-represented groups; men, teachers and at the high school
- Enhanced PTAC Operation (Strategy, Goals, Structured Meetings and Committees)
- Communications Strategy that links Superintendent, Principals, Teachers and PTAs
- PTA best practice sharing, including strategic support to resolve local school matters
Measures of Success
- PTAs and families report improvement in how our district functions
- Reduction in the achievement gap
- More positive reports from families about the experience and achievement of their students with special needs
- Continued growth and interest in the PTA Council
- Greater participation in our schools’ PTAs
