SEPAC Committee Sign Up
SEPAC members are encouraged to get involved and join one of our working committees:
Audit Committee – This committee is working on reviewing the recommendations of the Special Education Audit and collaborating with district personnel to ensure audit timelines are met. Please use this link to volunteer for this committee.
Education Policy Committee – This group will work to keep informed of current policy that is being created and proposed by the NJ Senate and Assembly. A main goal will be to understand how the proposed legislation may impact disabled children. One of the first issues this committee will be focusing on is the proposed remote learning bills that were a focus in the spring. Please use this link to volunteer for this committee.
Family SEPAC Day – We are hoping to offer a Family SEPAC Day in the Spring of 2023. This would be a fun, outdoor celebration with adults and kids. Please use this link to volunteer to help with this.
SEPAC Liaison – One of our goals is to have at least one liaison per school building. This person would be comfortable reaching out to parents/caregivers within their school building who may need support or guidance and connecting them with MPS staff or other parents/caregivers that can be of help. Please use this link to volunteer to be a building liaison.
Special Education Handbook – One of the audit recommendations is to create a handbook for parents and caregivers that contains important information. This committee will meet frequently in the fall of 2022 and then (hopefully) much less often once the handbook is created. Please use this link to volunteer to work on the handbook.
Board of Education Meetings
SEPAC is given time at each BOE meeting to make a statement. We would love to have help from a wide variety of members with this task. Please use this link to sign up to speak at an upcoming BOE meeting. Someone will be in touch and will work with you to create a statement on behalf of our membership.
To be better prepared to assist with this, you may want to browse the BOE link on the MPS website. BOE agendas and minutes can be found on the site, as well as contact info for the BOE members. Even if you don’t plan to speak at an upcoming meeting, this is a great place to get information about the Montclair Public Schools.
