Summer Check In – 8/23/2021

We hope the summer is treating you all well. This communication is to alert you to  efforts advocating for the development of a District wide roadmap for the (1) the evaluation process for and (2) implementation of Compensatory Education for each individual student.

On August 18, 2021, the Leadership Team of SEPAC with support from SEPAC Members Emily Goldberg and Samantha Chipetz had a meeting with Dr. Ponds, Dr. Goldblatt, Interim Director of Public Services, and Supervisors of Special Education Ms. Carla Perez and Mrs. Jennifer Finnerty regarding compensatory education.

The discussion with the District was a good, open dialogue on the need to develop a road map/model for compensatory education. At present, the District is developing a plan to address compensatory education. It is understood that targeted, meaningful individualized plans need to be developed for each student.

Dr. Ponds has assured SEPAC that the District will get the students what they need. SEPAC will be meeting with Dr. Goldblatt and other members of the District’s Special Services Office before the end of the month and will provide additional information as it becomes available.

While SEPAC is advocating for the development of a Compensatory Education Plan/Road Map, SEPAC’s efforts do not replace your individual rights to pursue compensatory education. Ultimately, your involvement with the Child Study Team is important for the development of a personalized plan for your most valuable asset.
